What is the Process for Slab Formwork?

Slab formwork, also known as falsework or decking, is a metal system used to create the foundation for a concrete slab.

The process begins by laying out plywood decking on top of the metal framework, which serves as the soffit or underside of the future slab. Reinforcement bars are then fixed securely on top of the decking, providing the necessary structural support for the concrete.

Next, an edge shutter or side form is erected around the perimeter to contain the poured concrete. With all the key components in place, concrete is carefully poured across the top of the assembly, gradually filling the space and taking the desired shape.

As the concrete cures and hardens, the underlying falsework can then be safely stripped away from underneath, leaving behind the solid, freestanding concrete slab. Depending on the size and scope of the slab, strategic placement of support columns underneath may be required to properly distribute and carry the immense weight and load.

This crucial structural design element would be determined by our structural engineer, who would conduct a thorough load analysis and implement the necessary reinforcement plan.

Through this multi-step process, the slab formwork system enables the efficient and reliable construction of sturdy, load-bearing concrete slabs for a wide variety of building and infrastructure applications.

What are the Benefits of Slab Formwork?

Our slab formwork offers strength and durability to ensure the strong construction work of any given project. Other benefits include:

  • Speed and Efficiency: The speed of construction is increased by using slab formwork due to easy installation and reduced need for skilled labour. As a result, formwork is prepared quickly, leading to faster and more efficient construction work. The forms can be used for various projects and are easy to dismantle.

  • Accuracy and Quality: Slab formwork makes it easier to achieve correct alignments, shapes, and dimensions in a structure.

  • Flexibility and Versatility: Slab formwork can be customised to any shape, size, and load-bearing capacity, regardless of the uniqueness of the structure's design.    They can be combined with other formwork to build large structures, whether the design is repetitive or irregular.
